The Oblates are the key stone of the establishment of Amathypuram Mission in the diocese of Jaffna. It has a long standing history since 1977. Since the grotto, which was already in existence, was demolished during the civil war with the assistance of Fr. Stanislaus Philip, OMI, the prime architect of Amathypuram Mission, Fr. John Patrick, OMI, the present parish priest, worked tirelessly to establish a new grotto of our Lady of Lourdes. The new grotto was blessed opened with a solemn Eucharistic celebration by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanpragasam, the new bishop of Jaffna, on the 3rd of April 2016.
