A small new church, which is named after Our Lady of Annai Vailankanni, also known as Our Lady of Good Health was blessed and opened by Fr. P. J. Jebaratnam, the Vicar General of Jaffna Diocese at Amathypuram Mission.
Amathypuram Mission was established by the Oblates in 1983 in view of serving the Tamil people from the South of Sri Lanka, who were terribly affected during July 1983 riots. A fairly big church named after Our Lady of Annai Vailankanni that was built for these people by the then pastor, Fr. Philips Stanislaus, OMI, was completely destroyed during the civil war in 2009. The present parish priest, Fr. John Patrick, OMI obtained the financial help from a devout catholic, viz. Mrs. Sebastiampillai Jacinta, a Sri Lankan born, living in Switzerland,.
The Oblates thanked the donor Mrs. Sebastiampillai Jacinta who funded singly to build this new church and appreciated Fr. John Patrick, OMI for his immense effort in this endeavor.
