First holy communion ceremony for five boys and five girls took place on April 23, 2017, at Kanakarayankulam parish, in the diocese of Mannar. Fr. Gnanamuthu Wenceslaus, OMI, the parish priest with the help of the catechists prepared the children and organized the liturgy very well.
The Oblates has been administering Kanakarayankulam parish mission since 2012. Most of the parishioners are very poor, who are ordinary farmers as well as daily cooley workers.
This parish mission has seven sub stations, viz. Kalmadhu – St. Francis Xavier; Periyakulam –St. Eugene De Mazenod; Nedungkerni – Christ the King; Mathiyamadhu – Our Lady of Madhu;Maravilpai – Our Lady of Annai Velangkanni / Good Health; Paddudaipirithakulam – Divine Mercy; Kanakarayankulam – St. Antony that have 100 families, about 400 catholics.
