The much-anticipated General Congress took place from February 16 to 19, 2025, at Gnanodhayam, Mannar, under the inspiring theme:
“Synodal Journey of Hope: Renewing the Oblate Charism Today.” 

This gathering was a moment of deep reflection, renewal, and fraternity, bringing together 74 Oblate priests from across the island. Their presence and active participation made this congress a milestone in the journey of the Oblate mission.

Adding to the solemnity and significance of the event, three esteemed bishops graced the occasion with their presence:
Rt. Rev. Justin B. Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna
Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Fernando, Bishop of Mannar
Rt. Rev. Dr. Nobert Andradi, Bishop of Anuradhapura

The congress commenced with a grand flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by vibrant cultural performances that showcased the rich heritage and unity of the Oblate community. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and a spirit of togetherness as the Bishop of Mannar, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Fernando, invoked the divine blessings of the Eucharistic Lord to officially open the congress.

One of the highlights of the congress was the remarkable contribution of Rev. Fr. Jeyaraj Rasaiah, SJ, who, as the facilitator, skillfully steered the discussions, ensuring a fruitful exchange of ideas and reflections.

The heart of the congress was its panel discussions, which revolved around five crucial themes that shape the mission and future of the Oblates:
Mission – Strengthening evangelization and outreach
Formation – Nurturing spiritual and academic growth
Finance – Ensuring sustainability and transparency
Community Life – Deepening fraternity and collaboration
Administration – Enhancing leadership and governance

Each panel featured three dynamic speakers, who offered thought-provoking presentations, sparking engaging group discussions where participants freely shared their insights, concerns, and aspirations. The discussions were not just intellectual but deeply spiritual, rooted in a desire to renew the Oblate charism for the challenges of today’s world.

As the congress drew to a close, a sense of unity and purpose filled the air. The final session witnessed the voting on deliberations and recommendations, ensuring that the voices of all participants contributed to the future direction of the Oblate mission.

With hearts full of hope and renewed commitment, the delegates departed, ready to carry forward the spirit of synodality, collaboration, and faith into their ministries.
