Papal Approbation of the Congregation

The Anniversary of the Papal Approbation of the Congregation was celebrated on the 16th of February, 2021 at the Provincialate, Thodarpaham. It was an immense joy of St. Eugene, the Founder when he got the approbation of the Rules on the 17th of February, 1826 by the Sovereign Pontiff Leo XII. As Fr. Provincial indicated on the invitation note regarding two things; first of all it is a joy that we are called “Pontifical Congregation”; second, it gives us an identity. On this great day His Lordship Justin B. Gnanapragasam, the Bishop of Jaffna addressed the Oblates. He touched the greatness of the history of Oblates in Sri Lanka. He pointed out both the success and the difficulties that the Oblates faced in the past, at the same time the challenges to initiate developing the local clergies. He reinstated that every priest and religious should be ‘the men of compassion of God’. Following the talk, Bishop celebrated the Eucharist. The celebration was followed by the Festive Lunch. Our sincere thanks go to every Oblate by whose painstaking effort and love for the Province, made the day successful and colourful. Happy feast dear Oblates…
