St. Joseph’s Juniorate
Nurturing Young Hearts for a Missionary Vocation
St. Joseph’s Juniorate, Colombuthurai, is a formative community for young boys who, from around the age of 15, wish to explore and discern a possible vocation to the missionary and religious life of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI). The Juniorate provides a supportive environment where young people can grow in faith, continue their education and develop the human, spiritual and personal qualities needed for a meaningful life of service.
Education and Personal Development
An important part of life at the Juniorate is the completion of school education. Juniorate students are encouraged to take their studies seriously, develop good learning habits and build a strong foundation for their future. After completing their school studies, they may undertake English language courses to improve their communication skills and prepare themselves for further studies and formation.
Alongside academic learning, they are guided in discipline, responsibility, leadership, respect for others and the development of a mature and balanced personality.
Spiritual Formation and Prayer Life
Spiritual growth is at the heart of Juniorate life. Through daily meditation, personal and communal prayer, the celebration of Holy Mass and reflection on the Word of God, students are encouraged to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and discover God's purpose for their lives.
They learn the importance of faith, prayer, humility, compassion and service while gradually discerning whether God is calling them to Oblate missionary life.
Community Life and Shared Responsibilities
Living together as a community helps students develop fraternity, cooperation, mutual respect and a sense of belonging. They learn to appreciate one another's differences, share responsibilities and live harmoniously with others.
Everyday activities such as maintaining the house, cleaning shared spaces, helping with household duties and caring for common belongings teach them the value of service, teamwork, self-reliance and responsibility.
